Return to the Basics

It has been a while since we last posted. We have been involved in so many things….to name a few:

  1. Training and the right amount of intensity
  2. Injury
  3. The mind
  4. Quality of sleep
  5. Quality of food
  6. Happiness

We refer to the above as some of the basics, and the reason for this is there is no magic pill or formula that is going to make you fitter, happier, lose weight. If anyone sells you the magic pill or magic formula, then they are lying as there is no such thing.

Every individual is unique and there is no one size fits all. Not everyone likes to run or jump or go to the gym. That same person may like to walk or hike. It is important to understand adaptations and those adaptations need to be factored into an appropriate framework for that individual.

Most of us like to eat cake and chocolate because it makes us feel great and because it satisfies an immediate desire. OK yes in some circumstances it could be argued that we will regret it later……BUT maybe we won’t. If you eat cake everyday as part of your diet then yes maybe that is something we need to talk about, but a broader question may need to be asked (point 6 and point 3 above) …. are we eating cake because of something else that might be bothering us?

I like cake and I love eating it at parties (especially birthday parties), and it makes me happy (point 6), and I am at peace with this as I know I am regularly active and eat pretty well during the week (calorie intake versus energy expenditure). More importantly I am active….I don’t lead a sedentary lifestyle. WIN!

The next series of writings are going to be on a return to the basics and not getting caught up in the minutiae of stuff that isn’t really important. It is important to have enough brain space to think about what really matters and put in place the right framework or set of systems that work for you.

We will talk about what those frameworks (strategies) systems might look like for you but more importantly how to adapt or think about something that is right for you. It is tough out there as there is so much content on every media platform I can think of selling you their product or service. It is so overwhelming that you don’t know where to start.
