In a hyperconnected world whilst there are many benefits, have we stopped to think about how this is impacting our sleep. Many of us don’t prioritise sleep and we look to maximise the most of a 24 hour day.
The value of sleep is really not known or understood well by the day to day person, even though it is well researched and proven that sleep is key to our bodies re-generation.
Sacrificing sleep means we inhibit our bodies ability to recover, subsequently leading to lack of focus, lethargy, anxiety and depression and of course weight gain.
Many mammals will sleep in excess of 14 hours a day, and even our ancestors slept when the sun went down and woke when the sun came up giving the body a good 10+ hours re-generation.
The ability to obtain deep sleep will significantly impact the way you feel the following day, the way you are able to function and exercise, and impact the way you feel in terms of mood.
Over the course of the next few months we are going to explore the powers of sleep and its re-generative powers. We will do this in bite size posts.
Are you planning on any activity today?
Happy Training Today, or Happy Activity Day. We recommend a good warmup (as always), an exercise we always recommend is the good old squat hold (include a pulse if you like, and use bands for more resistance). This exercise is a great hip opener. Pulsing on the spot will also isolate any tightness you may have, and areas you may need to work on. You can also go into a sumo squat position to enhance the stretch (this means legs are wider stance toes pointing out). You can do this anywhere anytime and it feels great, and your body will feel great.
